2015 Internship Program

Each year, VisualResearch, Inc. provides a short-term internship to a limited number of students in an effort to develop and reinforce the practical application of research and data analysis techniques, data and information presentation strategies, writing proficiency, and/or graphic design and layout. These internships offer real-world experience, and applicants who successfully complete the program will have demonstrated an ability to complete a variety of project tasks working both independently and in small groups.

When

Program runs for 3 weeks, July 14 - 31, 2015

Who

We will select two to four exceptional students ranging from rising high school seniors to college seniors, who have a working to proficient experience in visual storytelling and animation. The ideal individual must have the ability to conceptualize a concise idea for effective communication that will be delivered to a target audience. Specific skillsets from preliminary storyboard drawings to final executions of characters, backgrounds and scene transitions are expected. We would like individuals who are capable of taking on individual tasks as well as working closely with others to enable bringing their formulated ideas and concepts to life.

Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop is required. Capabilities of rendering motion graphics in a 3D program, ideally in Cinema4D, and video editing is a plus! Applicants must be spending their summers in the central Virginia region and must be able to drive to work each day. No previous professional work experience in a related field is required.

Details

This internship is designed to bring a small group of creative motion graphics storytellers together in order to create a compelling short animated spot for VisualResearch Inc. Over the course of a 3-week period the VRI interns will experience what it is like to learn and carry out a motion graphics job from start to finish. This process includes an initial assessment with VRI staff in order to gather the necessary information to fulfill the requested needs of the company. This preliminary inquiry and problem solving method will drive the remaining creative brainstorming experience of the group. The interns will also have daily experience of learning some tips and tricks of animating by working alongside VRI’s art director. This ongoing learning process of motion graphics skillsets, paired with the processes of carrying out a full-animated project from start to finish, will provide a real world opportunities similar to that of motion graphics designers. VisualResearch strives to contribute to educating young learners for the real world in order to instill confidence and competency for the future. The final deliverable will be targeted and sent out through various social media channels.

Schedule & Compensation

A $175 stipend will be provided to high school interns and a $250 stipend will be provided to college interns who successfully complete the program. Hours are flexible and can be adjusted to meet certain schedules. However, once the schedule is set, any violation may result in the immediate termination of the internship and no delivery of the stipend.
